Re-Do Kitchen: How to Make A Lamp Look Rustic

February 27, 2012

Since the kitchen has more of a casual feel I gave the entrance hall a little re-vamp by spray painting the more formal regency style black enamel and brass base candle stick lamps black.  I’m not sure if these lamps are popular anymore but many types of lamps can be painted with the same results.   It was a needed change.  The brass had started to tarnish with black spots, showing their age.

It’s dark in the entrance hall with the dark wood Longcase clock, table and medium wood mirror even with the cream walls.  Originally I wanted to make white gathered shades of linen for a 1700’s look but my sister would not let me cut up one of her three linen beach cover-ups!  So I used cream burlap that I had on hand and recovered the black fabric shades with it, making for more of a transitional look.  The shades help brighten the room some and look more rustic in keeping with the kitchen.
